Peering Off a Pier into Puget Sound

Sarah Waller

By day, Puget Sound is a dark sheet of water. But, by night, it can light up with luminous constellations of tiny sea creatures. All you need is a flashlight. Gabby Byrne is a Marine Biologist and Education Coordinator with People for Puget Sound. She gets goosebumps from the creatures that show up in the beam of a flashlight. That's why she founded Pier Peers. She brings people together late at night to peer into the waters of Puget Sound. People meet her on a floating pier in Olympia's Boston Harbor and wait to see what shows up. KUOW's Sarah Waller joined Gabby as she prepared for that night's program.
